To mark the end of the ‘Time with Nettles’ exhibition join us for a community screening of the feature documentary ‘The Nettle Dress’ at Mote 102.

The Nettle Dress is the story of textile artist Allan Brown who spent seven years making a dress from scratch using only fibre sourced from locally foraged nettles. Allan experienced the death of his father followed a few years later by the heart-breaking death of his wife.

The film explores a poignant metaphor of moving passed pain using the healing powers of nature and slow hand craft. The dress is a totem representing seven years of labour that involved stripping away the hard outer stalk of the Nettles to get to the soft fibres, spinning it all into yarn and then painstakingly weaving it into cloth on a hand loom.  Beautifully shot by his friend, filmmaker Dylan Howitt; its been described as a modern – day fairytale.

> This event is part of the ‘Time with Nettles’ exhibition at Mote102, featuring artwork by Cass Barron and Lorna Brown, open from 18-26 April.
