Location: Anchor Building, The Heart of Newhaven, Edinburgh
Date/time: 5.30-8.30pm | Thursday 13 August
Make your own costal meadow inspired accordion book in this FREE creative workshop in collaboration with Edinburgh Shoreline.
This workshop invites you to find out more about the Edinburgh Shoreline ‘Above & Below’ project, which is restoring local flora and fauna along the shoreline from Crammond to Gypsy Brae. This work is being carried out with the support of the City of Edinburgh Council, University of Edinburgh and local volunteers, with activity taking place to prepare land, collect and sow the highest genetic value local seeds in sites along existing meadow areas in Edinburgh.
In the workshop we’ll spend some time looking at the wildflowers that are being planted and hear about the multitude of benefits they offer, before making a series of decorative botanical papers using a range of simple but effective printing techniques.
I will then introduce a cut and fold accordion book structure and share examples of how you can work into this, adding stitched pages and pockets, incorporating your botanical prints, collage and my collection of natural inks made with local botanicals.
There will be the opportunity for you to carry on working into your book after the session and submit this to be part of an exhibition that Edinburgh Shoreline is putting together to spread awareness of the project and celebrate your involvement.
A great opportunity to spend a few creative hours printing and bookbinding, while learning about wildflowers and opportunities to get involved in the Edinburgh Shoreline project.
All materials are provided along with follow up instructions.
> Please note: this is a community workshop, adults and adults with accompanying children (aged 8+) are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult (you can either both work on your own book or make one together) – when booking please book a ticket for everyone attending.
