This collaborative workshop with Artist & Writer Julie Galante was originally developed for Book Week Scotland and has resulted in some fabulous personalised books that celebrate the humble letter!
Via a series of online videos, tutorials, and writing prompts, Cass and Julie will lead you through the making process and provide you with writing guidance. We’ll discuss letter-writing as a means for communicating, storytelling, and processing our own thoughts. We’ll go through some writing exercises that explore themes of self-reflection, hopes, dreams and ambitions for the future, resulting in a hand-bound collection of uplifting, inspiring and poignant letters.
The book structure will involve making and decorating envelopes, stitching them together using an exposed French link stitch and adding a hard front and back cover – a great structure for storing your own writing as well as cards and letters you have received.
> A specially curated kit accompanies this workshop, this contains all the materials and optional tools to create your book, including – a range of recycled, vintage and decorative papers, stamps, and a few surprises… trust us when we say it will be a joy to open! Plus an all important teabag and biscuits to fuel your crafting!
> Or you can provide your own tools/materials using the comprehensive Kit List provided upon purchase, which includes measurements and links to recommended suppliers – see the materials list below for an overview of what you need and click here to purchase access to Art of Journalling without a kit.
What participants are saying about the Letters to the Future –
The attraction for me was the creative combination of writing and bookbinding. I loved it! It was a joy to explore the envelope book structure with Cass and then fill my fabulous creation with letters following Julie’s thoughtful prompts. I loved how the book and its content emerged together. I would totally recommend this course! – Rosemary
