Art of Journalling – online workshop & kit

Make a functional and fabulous refillable journal with room for 4 booklets, complete with pocket and envelope inserts to hold your treasures/receipts (because everything is better with pockets), and get some gentle guidance on how to craft a journalling practice that works for you!

Designed for avid note takers, list makers, daily sketchers, stationary lovers and those of us who like to have a notebook to hand at all times – this collaborative workshop, created in partnership with Edinburgh-based Artist and Writer Julie Galante, invites you to make a journal that you can use and reuse for years to come!

The refillable journal you’ll make in this workshop is A5 in size (portrait orientation) with a hard front and back cover, attached with a leather spine using split pins to give a durable and eye-catching studded effect. A pocket and envelope insert and pen/pencil holder are located within the journal and elastic is threaded through the leather spine to create room for 4 individually stitched booklets. The journal is finished with an elastic fastening, for easy access when inspiration strikes!

*Instructions are also provided for how to scale up and down should you wish to experiment with sizing.

Once you have made your refillable journal we invite you to get stuck in and start using it straight away! We know that the white page can sometimes be daunting and the term ‘journalling’ can be a bit off-putting for some, but you’re in safe hands with Julie, via a series of videos and resources she will share:

  • Guidance on how to get going with your new journal – some writing exercises designed to tap into our creativity and promote wellbeing.

  • Ideas on how to approach a journalling practice and the benefits that regular writing can bring.

  • Methods such as free writing, gratitude journaling, mind mapping.

There is something quite special about writing into a book you have made – our hope is that your refillable journal will become a safe and joyful place for you to put pen/pencil to paper, somewhere you can calm your mind, capture your thoughts and let your creativity flow!

> A limited edition kit accompanies this workshop, which contains all the materials you need and an optional bookbinding toolkit, plus an all important teabag and biscuits to fuel your crafting – click here for kit options.

What participants are saying about the Art of Journalling –

What a lovely combination this course provided. Making the journal was a pleasure and I’m proud of the finished work. Cass’s instruction videos are excellent, really clear and easy to follow. The Zoom session with Julie and Cass was really enjoyable and gave me lots of ideas about how I could use the journal. A superb idea for a course. It would make a great Christmas or birthday gift for someone who likes to make things. – Karen

Best course I’ve done online during these weird Covid times. Loved the combination of making something really lovely and the writing exercises which helped free up my locked down writing mind! Also really well constructed video tutorials. Well done Cass and Julie! – Lynne
