In this workshop I’ll take you through how to make a hard cover casebound book using remnant fabric, complete with handmade upcycled end-bands.

This is quite a tricky book structure to master as there are elements of stitching, gluing and positioning to consider, each of which have their own challenges – some bookbinding experience is a bonus so you’re not starting completely from scratch, but don’t let that put you off, this is a really rewarding make and I’ll share lots of useful tips to help you along the way.

I will prep and cut some of the materials required for this workshop so that you can focus on the gluing and stitching but you will receive a detailed video instructions that cover how to make this book structure from scratch, including info on how to scale up and down, after the workshop should you wish to make more casebound books at home.

You will leave the workshop with an A7 landscape hand stitched & glued book block and a hinged fabric & card cover with instruction on how to glue and press at home to ensure a neat and durable finish.

I will share tips and advice for working with low-cost remnant and recycled materials including recommendations on where to source materials. Bookbinding toolkits will also be available to buy at the end of the workshop.

All materials are provided.
