This satisfying book structure features a folded accordion spine and stitched signatures, with the option to incorporate  pockets, tabs and textured pages. A great project that makes for a unique keepsake of a trip or event with the opportunity to weave in papers and mementos you have collected.

This is a really lovely book full of texture and movement – join me as I weave together a collection of papery treasures from a recent trip to Helsinki to create this book, with lots of ideas for how you can use this book structure to do the same.

How this course is taught?

This course is taught via a series of step-by-step video tutorials, accompanied by a downloadable document with links to recommended suppliers and advice on sourcing & prepping materials. In my video tutorials I make an A7 sized book with 5 signatures and cover how to scale up or down if you want to make the same book in a different size/shape.
You will have continued access to my video tutorials via a password protected page on my website, which means you can revisit my videos for a reminder of the process whenever you need – I only ask that you please don’t share log in details with friends or third parties, doing so will result in you losing access. You will also have access to the private Bookbinding with Cass Facebook page where you can share your makes, ask questions and get ideas as you progress through the course.

Materials

The accompanying kit for this workshops includes all the basic materials you need to make an A7 size book with five stitched signatures, just add your own selection of decorative papers –

  • Grey board for book covers
  • Recycled cartridge paper cut to size for your signatures
  • A sheet of thick paper for the spine of your book
  • A mix of coloured threads for stitching your signatures
  • Paper tags and stickers to include in your book
  • 1.5mm round elastic to fasten your book
  • UHU glue
  • Double sided adhesive sheet

You will need to source your own:

  • Paper ephemera to include in your book, this could include wrapping paper, leaflets, maps, photos, postcards etc
  • There is also the option to incorporate fabric into the cover of your book – thin cotton fabric works best

  • Scissors
  • Chopping board or cutting matOptional:
  • Japanese screw Punch with 1.5mm head for punching holes in cover / an awl will also work
